The Banningham Crown Great food and good value ________________________________________ The Banningham Crown is a traditional 17th century timbered inn located in the quiet village of Banningham opposite the historic 14th century church and village green. The building originally housed an inn with cart lodge and stables, a shop and separate cottage and was converted to its current form in the 1980's. Run by the same family since 1991 the pub provides a traditional country pub atmosphere with the emphasis on good quality food, friendly staff and excellent customer service. Log fires and wood burners warm the pub during the Winter months and the sheltered patio and gardens provide a great place for dining al fresco during the Summer. Food is served 7 days per week at lunchtimes and evenings and is produced in house by Chefs using seasonal and local produce. This is complimented by great value wines from around the world and Real Ales. We also provide a separate room for private functions and meetings, free Wi-Fi connection, heated covered smoking area, disabled access and large car park. Major credit cards accepted. Menu Selection In addition to our A La Carte Menu we also offer a changing selection of Roasts, Fresh Fish and Game on our Blackboard Menus. Entertainment Traditional Jazz Bands play at The Banningham Crown on some Sundays during the winter and an annual Jazz Festival is held in the garden during August every year. Quiz nights are held on the last Tuesday of every month during the winter with proceeds to the Air Ambulance. Special events such as Burns Night and Fish & Wine Tasting suppers also prove very popular. Traditional Morris Dancing takes place in June and on Boxing Day every year. Please see our Events Page for information. Local History Opposite the pub is St Botolphs Church where you can see the glorious hammer beam roof with 17 angels on each side. If you stroll through the village you may well come across the infamous snake pit!!! It is believed Cromwell had a 14ft pit dug into which were put 10 venomous snakes. He said that any man who had doubts about his wife was in his rights to throw her into the pit. If she escaped unhurt it proved her innocence! Located inside the pub are two historical maps from 1707 and 1747 of the Banningham estate. Also on display is the Bible donated by Reverend Bickerstaff who was curate at Banningham from 1848-1851 famous for the hymn Peace Perfect Peace. ________________________________________ ________________________________________ Contact Information The Crown Inn Colby Road Banningham Norwich Norfolk NR11 7DY Tel: 01263 733534 Fax: 01263 733082 Opening Hours Restaurant Lunch Monday-Saturday Sunday 12-2pm 12-9pm Restaurant Evening Monday-Thursday Friday Saturday 6.30-9pm 6.30-9.30pm 6.00-9.30pm Bar Lunch Monday-Saturday Sunday 12-2.30pm all day Bar Evening Monday-Thursday Friday-Saturday Sunday 6.30-11.00pm 6.30-12.30pm until 11.00pm ________________________________________ VAT number 765 1014 50 © The Banningham Crown 2011
